At Tesla’s 2022 AI Day, the Tesla bot Optimus prototype was officially unveiled.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that this prototype can be more powerful than the ability to be displayed on the spot, but the first time it ran in the case of ” no rope ” was on this stage.

Musk revealed that it could reach a price of ” probably less than $20,000.” In the Q&A session that followed, the Tesla team demonstrated a strong ability to make the actuators: building the actuators needed for artificial intelligence and robotic technology based on their experience in producing electric vehicle drive units. Musk said that will help it put the robot into production and start testing it inside the factory.

He claims that the difference between Tesla’s design and other ” very impressive humanoid robot demos ” is that Tesla’s Optimus Prime, which is built for mass production of “millions” of units, is very capable.

Tesla, Inc.

Tesla, Inc.[1] ( /ˈtɛslə/ TESS-lə[b] ) is an American multinational automotive and clean energy company headquartered in Austin, Texas.

Tesla designs and manufactures electric vehicles ( electric cars and trucks ), battery energy storage from home to grid-scale, solar panels and solar roof tiles, and related products and services.

Tesla is one of the world’s most valuable companies and remains the world’s most valuable automaker with a market capitalization of more than US$840 billion.

However, the company has also been controversial because of vehicle collisions and fatal accidents in recent years:

  • In 2013, a Model S caught fire after the vehicle hit metal debris on a highway in Kent, Washington. Tesla confirmed the fire began in the battery pack and was caused by the impact of an object.
  • According to a document released in June 2021, the NHTSA has initiated at least 30 investigations into Tesla crashes that were believed to involve the use of Autopilot, with some involving fatalities.
  • A safety test conducted by the Dawn Project in August 2022 demonstrated that a test driver using the beta version of Full Self-Driving repeatedly hit a child-sized mannequin in its path, but there has been controversy over its conclusions.

Tesla Bot[2], also known as Optimus, is a conceptual general-purpose robotic humanoid under development by Tesla, Inc.

It was announced at the company’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Day event on August 19, 2021.CEO Elon Musk claimed during the event that Tesla would likely build a prototype by 2022.

Musk is on record having said that he thinks Optimus ” has the potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time .”

Detail

According to reports, the robot has a total of 28 joints, each joint has multiple sets of actuators, which will analyze the execution efficiency in the background to reduce invalid work. These hardware are all developed from automotive processes.

Musk said: ” If robots are ubiquitous in the future, the human economy will develop better, people can choose to do physical work, but this is not necessary, we can choose more mental work .”

On site, robots can walk independently, wave to users, and even dance and other content.

At the same time, Musk also showed scenes working with Tesla robots, which can be manufactured in factories or watered in offices.

In terms of security, Tesla has also made some designs. In order to protect the robot, the developers have optimized its structural foundation, and the humanoid robot will not break the transmission and arm when it falls, and this technology can be applied to the robot. After all, the maintenance cost of a robot is high.

The developers used the same underlying technology as the car, allowing the robot to generate pressure in all components, making its walking control easier and less rigid.
However, Musk said that in the past year, the robot team has worked 7 days a week, more than a dozen hours a day, and although Tesla has done a lot of work, the robot is still in the early stages and can do better in the future.
